About

In the 1970s, a college student named Lotta who had the aptitude, drive and work ethic to pursue graduate studies was accepted to, and even received a tuition scholarship for, the graduate school of her choice. However, after working her way through undergraduate as a double major, even sending money home in some instances, she felt the pull financially to start working full time. As a first generation college student and the second of seven, her family simply was not in the position to support her financially or otherwise in pursuing additional studies.

One generation later, after a long career in public service, Lotta graduated with her Master’s Degree in the same year that her oldest daughter graduated medical school, and her youngest daughter graduated from college. Subsequently, Lotta’s oldest daughter pursued psychiatry as her medical subspecialty, and her youngest daughter earned a PhD in Clinical Psychology. Additionally, both of her daughters are proud HBCU Alumna.

This home is named in Lotta’s honor, and has a mission of providing a supportive space for promising HBCU students who embody resilience, have a heart for service, and aspire to pursue careers in the mental health and/or medical fields.
